Seminar: Waste recycling and Management Starting the Seminar session on Waste Management in Townships, Hetas Majumadr, Jt. GM- Admin. While recycling is possible in most waste, handling and disposing hazardous medical waste is an issue and needs much attention. Dr. Mahesh Patel, Quality & Patient Safety Officer, Apollo Hospitals International Ltd, made a presentation on ‘Bio-Medical Waste Management & Recycling.’ “The ‘carrot and stick’ formula is the only solution, to the waste collection problem in India.” In a panel discussion on strategy of waste management, panel members C.R. Kharsan, Dy. Municipal Commissioner, Health & Solid Waste Management, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, E.H.Pathan, Executive Engineer, Surat Municipal Corporation, Paresh Parekh, Founder and Managing Director, Sort India Enviro Solutions Ltd, Bhavesh Hadiya, Environmental Engineer, Jamnagar Municipal Corporation and Mohana M, agreed that legislation, organised collection and segregation could actually save the Indian exchequer crores of rupees. Throwing light on plastic waste and recycling in the second session, Mihir Banerji, Governing Council of Indian Plastics Inst. (IPI) revealed the ‘Global Scenario of Plastic Waste Recycling-some new Ideas for India’. Followed by Haren Sanghavi, Director, GMS, Plastic Machinery Pvt Ltd. who spoke on, ‘Advanced technologies to meet our challenges of plastic recycling.’ A panel discussion was held on the topic, ‘Plastic recycling & technology.’ The panelist included, Haren Sanghavi, Director, GMS, Plastic Machinery Pvt Ltd. & Hon.
